From 1925 to 1938 he was a professor at Roth College in Medias (Rumania). Oberth studied at the universities of Munich (1913–14 and 1919–20), Cluj (1919), Göttingen (1920–21), and Heidelberg (1921–23). At a young age, Oberth came down with scarlet fever, and spent part of his childhood recovering in Italy. Hermann Oberth died in Nuremburg, West Germany, on Dec. 29, 1989, at the age of 95. He was a German scientist who was one of the founders of modern astronautics and is sometimes called “the Father of Space Travel.” He is often compared to Robert Goddard of the United States and Konstantin Tsiolkovsky of the Soviet Union.
